The Monsoon and Unhealthy Ozone

Staff Writer, Nathaniel Diaz
Weather / Air Quality
________________________________

Ozone will be a problem again in the unhealthy range. So people with respiratory issues should limit activity. Healthy people should take caution as well.

Will the monsoon come and alleviate the unhealthy air quality?
Forecast Discussion: Ozone has been exceptionally high the past couple days as a monsoonal high pressure has persistently remained over the Four Corners region. This system has resulted in an easterly, upper-level flow over the Valley, which acts to "lock" ozone over central parts of the Valley and allows it to accumulate. Nine Valley monitors exceeded the health standard yesterday. Looking ahead, a ridge of high pressure is forecast to remain situated over the Southwest for the next several days. Consequently, the atmosphere over the Valley is expected to be stagnant and support ozone accumulation. Hence, the ozone High Pollution Advisory (HPA) has been extended into Thursday. It is likely that an HPA will be issued for Friday, depending on timing of thunderstorm activity. Regarding thunderstorms, thunderstorms are likely to develop each day over the higher terrain in southeast Arizona and to the north/northeast of Phoenix. Due to the very moist atmosphere over much of south central Arizona, these storms will have to the potential to reach the Valley. For today, there is agreement in high resolution models that a strong outflow could impact the Valley from the south later this afternoon. This would result in blowing dust impacting the Valley. Elevated PM-10 is thus possible this evening. Any rain will help to shut down PM-10. Blowing dust will continue to be a possibility each afternoon/evening this week. Check back tomorrow for the next air quality forecast...
Storms are expected around the metro area for the next few days and into the first of July.

Hopefully these storms produce enough rain to clean the air, wet the land, and keep ozone at bay.

Wet Weather on its Way

Staff Writer, Nathaniel Diaz
Weather / Air Quality
______________________________________

Welcome February weather this last week of January:
Forecast Discussion: The trough to the west is bearing down on Arizona bringing the overcast skies that we are currently seeing. We are confident that most of the state will receive a fair amount of precipitation, which will help improve air quality the next couple days. The Phoenix area will likely receive between a quarter to a half inch of rain with some areas getting even more. Rain should begin late tonight and last most of Friday with scattered showers continuing through Saturday as well. Conditions should begin clearing out late on Saturday with mostly sunny skies expected for Super Bowl Sunday. While the weather is looking good for the Super Bowl, the Phoenix Open will have to contend with wet conditions and temperatures in the lower 60's on Friday and Saturday. Remember, with all the festivities going on the next few days there will be more cars than usual on the road, so be safe while driving in the rainy conditions. Check back on Friday for a closer look at the weekend's weather and air quality.

Ionospheric Tampering, Climate Change is from Electromagetic Manipulation Not Carbon

A fascinating read for anyone who has the time. It is highly recommended:

The High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program (HAARP) is currently the most important facility used to generate extremely low frequency (ELF) electromagnetic radiation in the ionosphere. In order to produce this ELF radiation the HAARP transmitter radiates a strong beam of high-frequency (HF) waves modulated at ELF. This HF heating modulates the electrons’ temperature in the D region ionosphere and leads to modulated conductivity and a time-varying current which then radiates at the modulation frequency. Recently, the HAARP HF transmitter operated with 3.6GW of effective radiated power modulated at frequency of 2.5Hz. It is shown that high-power ELF radiation generated by HF ionospheric heaters, such as the current HAARP heater, can cause Earthquakes, Cyclones and strong localized heating.

On Again, Off Again, the Monsoon is a Fickle Creature

Weather / Air Quality
_________________________________

The monsoon will take a break in the western part of the state and bring with it hotter temperatures. Tuesday through Thursday will begin this on and off pattern. The coming weekend will see a return of storm chances and air quality concerns with dust storm formation.

Until then, keep your oven mittens in the car, July is not over and August is setting up to be as hot as ever.
Forecast Discussion: It has been an active few days now on the weather front! It started with the unusually large dust event that affected portions of Mexico on Thursday. This was likely caused by what is called a Mesoscale Convective System. This dust then moved northward into Arizona Thursday and Friday with a moisture surge. A pronounced haze was widespread. As a result PM-10 and PM-2.5 were already elevated before significant thunderstorm activity and multiple outlfows triggered a dust storm that impacted much of the Valley during the early evening on Friday. Ultimately, six Maricopa County monitors exceeded the PM-10 health standard. Then another round of strong winds, locally heavy rainfall, and blowing dust struck the Phoenix Metropolitan late last night into the early morning hours. This would account for the lingering haze seen today along with higher current PM readings. We remain in an unstable environment. Models are consistent in showing thunderstorms forming once again over the higher terrain. These then move westward under east-southeasterly steering winds into the Phoenix area during the early evening. Stronger outflows dropping out the higher terrain from the north and east versus the south will help limit the dust threat, but localized blowing dust is still possible. The steering flow is then expected to turn southwesterly by Monday, which is unfavorable for bringing convection into the Valley. Generally, ozone readings are running lower than this time yesterday, likely to due to this morning's cloud cover and the clearing winds from last night. We expect ozone to stay around the lower Moderate range through Tuesday.

Monsoon Cool Down and Decent Air Quality, Week of July 15

Today's Air Quality
Forecast Discussion: Forecast models did very well with Sunday's storms in regards to timing and location. Areas in the southeast Valley are cleaning up this morning after severe weather rolled through the area. Reports of hail, downed trees, winds in excess of 60 mph and over an inch of rain in less than an hour came in as the storm moved west. Typically after a storm like that, the Valley is tapped of energy and the following day is a down-day. However, models are in agreement that we could see another round Monday afternoon. They differ slightly on whether storms move through the Valley or skirt metro area to the north and south, merging again in western Maricopa County. There could be isolated downpours, hazardous lightning, damaging winds, and hail. This will be the last chance for rain until next Sunday or Monday as the monsoon high moves to northern California. Much drier air moves into Arizona by Wednesday. Expect middle Moderate ozone levels through Wednesday. PM10 levels should be back in the Good range following Sunday's rain event and any subsequent precipitation on Monday.

El Niño in 2014 - Will we have one?

Staff Writer, DL Mullan

El Nino is coming. Strong. Understated. Hang on to your hats; it's going to be a bumpy ride.
As part of their subdued forecast, Klotzbach and Gray predict a 35 percent chance that a hurricane will strike Florida, compared with the long-term average of 51 percent. The state has gone a record eight seasons without a hurricane hit.

Klotzbach and Gray, of Colorado State University, are considered elite tropical forecasters; Gray pioneered the development of seasonal outlooks in the early 1980s.
So their predictions are:
Phil Klotzbach and William Gray released their outlook Thursday, calling for nine named storms, including three hurricanes, one intense. That's far below the average of 12 named storms, including six hurricanes, three major.
Florida has a 35% chance of getting hit this year, down from the usual 51% chance. The last eight seasons Florida has avoided taking a direct hit.

Hurricane season begins on June 1st and runs through Nov. 30th.

For it's part, NOAA states:
"ENSO-neutral conditions continue. Equatorial sea surface temperatures (SST) were above-average near the International Date Line and in the east-central Pacific.
While ENSO-neutral is favored for Northern Hemisphere spring 2014, the chances of El Niño increase during the remainder of the year, exceeding 50% by summer."

Pierre's Latest - Cosmic Microwave Background: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i8ijb...
Ever since Penzias and Wilson discovered that the Earth was surrounded by microwave energy, astronomers have been quick to postulate that the apparent ~3K signal represented the signature of the Big Bang. Yet long ago, Gustav Kirchhoff insisted that the setting of temperatures, using the laws of thermal emission, required enclosure. Clearly, the Big Bang can never meet this requirement. In this presentation, it will be demonstrated that the microwave fields, which surround the earth and have excited distant molecules, can be generated by the hydrogen bond within water in the condensed state. A review of the COBE and WMAP will be presented, revealing that the microwave anisotropy maps have no scientific validity. The data lack both signal to noise and reproducibility. Furthermore, the PLANCK satellite findings will be discussed. These data provide unambiguous evidence that powerful microwave fields do not exist at L2. Penzias and Wilson measured water on Earth. The correct assignment of this signal is vital to better understanding our own planet.

Pierre-Marie Robitaille, PhD is a Professor of Radiology at The Ohio State University, with a joint appointment in Chemical Physics. He initially trained as a spectroscopist and has wide ranging knowledge of instrumentation in the radio and microwave bands. A recognized expert in image acquisition and analysis, Professor Robitaille was responsible for doubling the world record in Magnetic Resonance Imaging in 1998. In 2000, he turned his attention to thermodynamics and astrophysics, demonstrating that the universality advanced in Kirchhoff's Law of Thermal Emission is invalid. He has published extensively on the microwave background, highlighting that this signal arises from water on the Earth and has no relationship to cosmology and has recently published a paper on the Liquid Metallic Hydrogen Solar Model (LMHSM).

Contrary to popular belief weather on Earth is not caused by people driving their cars or bovine flatulence, weather is caused by one main factors: the sun. Since we on Earth cannot manipulate the sun and Earth's relationship to space weather, military-patent geoengineering is destructive and futile.

With that said, please listen to the report on the Earth and Heliosphere for today's weather, earthquake, and sun forecast.
